When American Airlines retiree Terri Knop made an unusual decision to open a gourmet restaurant in the small town of Bastrop, east of Austin on the "Houston highway," she also made an important second  call: she hired Bastrop homegrown Preston Higgins, who had graduated from a culinary school, as chef. The partnership has resulted in an eatery that is worth a good early evening drive. Diners will enjoy fine steaks, seafood, shellfish and specials in a pre-1900s building with a 1920s art deco interior and accompanied by wonderful jazz music. The rib eye is as good as you can find anywhere and every meal can be complemented by an extensive wine list. As an added bonus patrons can enjoy live music under the stars on the back patio.
