One trend in Austin dining, especially downtown, is a growing number of venues that you cannot tell whether they are restaurants with great bars or great bars with separate dining spaces. The Belmont  is one of the best, featuring a very Las Vegas look, classic American cuisine, and appealing cocktails and entertainment. Under the direction of Executive Chef Benjamin Nathan the kitchen turns out  a wide variety of appetizers including Cuban sliders, a fried rock shrimp cone, and a sinful smoked bacon gorgonzola fondue with chive garlic toast. A good choice of soups, salads and sandwiches follows, setting up a nice group of seafood and meat entrees that include pineapple chipotle glazed pork chop, a cedar plank salmon and memorable brown sugar crusted ribeye. The bar features a lively selection of mojitos, signature cocktails such as the Belmontini, and a decent list of red, white and sparkling wines. With always attentive service, The Belmont is an ideal place for an after work "gear down,” a late night bite, or a special event; and it offers a friendly setting for Saturday and Sunday brunches.
