Diners in Wells Branch can crow about their own Chon Som, one of Central Texas' most exciting new restaurants. The pan-Asian eatery, which features a world class Sushi Bar as well as a variety of both traditional and custom recipes from Thailand, Japan and Southeast Asia, was opened by Owner/Chefs Nat Sawatphadungku and Alisa Vilasvoratarn and Nat's wife Marisa. And while it is conveniently located on Wells Branch Parkway between MoPac and I-35 it is well worth the trip from anywhere in the Austin area. The Sushi Bar features tasty starters like rainbow wrap, tiger eyes, and usuzukuri; a huge selection of Sushi rolls like dynamite, the popular caterpillar, and of course Strawberry Eels Forever. A wide variety of traditional and cooked Nigiri Sushi options are offered, along with many interesting combinations. Satay nibbles, tempura and tofu appetizers, and unusual salads such as the larb and the Chinese sausage set the stage for lunch and dinner. Lunch features include many Thai  and Japanese specials, while dinner includes chicken, beef, pork, seafood and tofu varieties of noodles, curry, stir fry, and fried rice. Diners can choose spice levels of mild, medium, hot, very hot, Thai hot and chef hot.and do I have to warn you about "chef hot!" Hint: save room for some red bean ice cream. Nat and Alisa's cooking combined with Marisa's hospitality makes the lovely Chon Som  a must for discerning Austin diners.
