Eastside is one of the coolest restaurants in Austin: a historic home on Manor Road that features its own garden, a detached "store" with foods, gifts and Eastside cookbooks, cozy tables in each of the house's rooms, and an outdoor patio that has been enclosed and air conditioning added. The food is just as cool. It features many of the vegetables, spices and herbs grown in the garden, and while it serves some wonderful meat and fish dishes it is very much at home with vegetarians. The Sesame Catfish is as good as it gets, as is the Artichoke Manicotti, Chicken Enchiladas, and Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas. Part of the charm is daily specials scribbled on blackboards scattered around the house. Add great soups, salads, desserts and the special fresh cornbread muffins, and you've experienced  a worthwhile trip to the east side of town.
