Overcome "out of sight, out of mind” and make a special trip to trendy Clarksville for this Grande Dame of central Austin eateries. You'll find much has changed and much is the same. The quaint house and its attached Josephine House for large parties and events are among the city's restaurant icons. The new chef in charge, Deegan McClung has stellar New Orleans credentials, and the menu reflects that training. A "new” oysters Octavia, named for an uptown NO street, joins its famous oyster cousin. A tasty crawfish remoulade also conjures up the best of the Big Easy, but a dessert beignet was tasteless and chewy. On the main menu, the soft shell crab was delicious but rich and buttery, and several of the crab legs had mysteriously disappeared. The menu features a small but quality offering of seafood, lamb, pork Osso Buco, duck and steak dishes, and presentation remains one of the restaurant's hallmarks. The dining rooms feel a bit cramped and a large drape that cordons off  the main room seemed unnecessary, but for a special evening Jeffrey's is still one of Austin's "must” destinations.
