Austin's Warehouse District has become a magnet for trendy restaurants, bars and shops, and Kenichi, in the 400 block of Colorado, epitomizes the area's hipness. The decor is modern Japanese, with an  interesting wild grass room divider between the bar and dining area. The patrons are a combination of young urbanites chasing the latest trends in Asian fusion cuisine and Austinites of all ages who simply enjoy good sushi and Japanese delicacies. You can make an evening in the bar, with mouth watering appetizers like smoked squid salad and a huge selection of sushi and sashimi accompanied by traditional or specialty concoctions dreamed up by friendly bartenders. The food is exceptional: begin with starters like shrimp and asparagus tempura or grilled quail; continue with a great choice of soups, salads and light entrees like the Buddha noodle bowl. There is a great variety of fish, meat and teriyaki entrees. Don't miss the sesame crusted ahi tuna or the 5 spice seared sika deer sirloin.
