The Johnson brothers founded The Melting Pot near Orlando, FL in 1975 and have been expanding this interesting "fondue" concept ever since; the 100th location opened in '05. The Austin site on Research Blvd. has become a popular stop for tekkies and families across north Austin and Williamson County. The experience includes cheese, chocolate and other fondues, a choice of cooking styles including  coq au vin in addition to fondues. In addition to interesting, tasty soups and salads, the restaurant features fresh seafood, meat and chicken dishes prepared in imaginative ways. The most popular order, called "The Big Night Out," features four courses. First is a zesty cheddar cheese fondue; second is a choice of salads; third is a choice from a changing selection of pork, beef, shellfish and chicken entrees accompanied by signature sauces like gorgonzola port, curry and garlic Dijon butter. Fourth, of course, is a wonderful chocolate fondue. An impressive selection of domestic and international wines and champagnes complements any meal.
