FoodHawk Review:
It is sometimes difficult to remember that the great Italian cuisine is the star at Nonna's, when the service and entertainment are the closest things to a Broadway show in Georgetown. When Kevan, a
charming waitperson, isn't singing her rousing renditions of Edelweiss or Danny Boy, she is setting ablaze and serving a pan of "Saganaki,” a unique and delicious mixture of Gruyere cheese, brandy,
lemon, sautéed garlic spinach. Nonna's has been quietly making its name on Eighth Street near the quaint Georgetown Square for about four years, and it is achieving star status during a boom in Georgetown eateries. Chef Dave Osmar calls it "Mediterranean fusion,” and it is a menu that is both varied and professionally crafted. Lunch offerings include fresh salads followed by tasty sandwiches  like the ‽true” original and crispy chicken jalapeno, pizzas, calzones and entrees like baked ziti ricotta and crab quiche. Dinner is more ambitious, with antipasti and salad choices followed by  imaginative dishes like ziti rustica, shrimp hierbabuena and nightly specials, like a recent duck dish that was to die for. The foodstuff is fresh and the duck and many perishables are flown in daily; all dishes are prepared from scratch following customer orders. As Nonna's seeks its liquor license the restaurant allows customers to bring their own wine and libations. At the end of a great meal, you will usually be visited by Chef Osmar; he wants to hear the good and bad news personally and he takes advice to heart. Of course, you may also be treated to one more of Kevan's ballads before  you leave.
