Some of Austin's best new restaurants have grown up around the convention center. P.F. Chang's actually first appeared in the area on Jollyville Road in the Arboretum area, but that restaurant's sister is now a thriving part of the San Jacinto scene. The food is uniformly and consistently good. A wide variety of appetizers, soups and salads are followed by "traditional" dishes like Shrimp and Lobster Sauce or Lo Mein; chicken and duck dishes like Kung Pao Chicken and Cantonese Roasted Duck; seafood like Oolong Marinated Bass; and meats like Wok-seared Lamb. There are also wonderful vegetarian  selections like Ma Po Tofu and a small selection of desserts that include that well known Oriental favorite New York Style Cheesecake. Service is prompt and friendly and you will enjoy the rumble of a  big crowd of happy diners even as you wait for your table.
