If you're curious about the seeds and roots of Austin's world famous live music scene, you'll do well to visit the original Threadgill's on North Lamar. Along with killer Southern cooking, Kenneth Threadgill renovated an old gas station and introduced live music to North Austin in 1981; in fact he's known as Janis Joplin's mentor. If you want to re-live a significant bit of Austin's live music history but haven't got the time or energy to trek to the original Threadgill's on North Lamar, you can catch the modern act just south of Town Lake, on Barton Springs Blvd. Live music still rings out, and the cooking is still Southern and proud of it. Chicken fried stead is king, but there are also a variety of other beef, seafood, pork or chicken dishes to go along with every kind of vegetable known to man and some mean biscuits. You can make a meal out of the vegetables and there are different veggie plate options. Just make sure you leave room for a piece of pie! The d�cor is authentic Texas, the service is down South friendly and the experience is truly Austin.
