Not a whole lot has changed at L'Ancestral, an intimate French restaurant much beloved by Dallas' well-to-do crowd, since it opened its doors in 1983 in the Knox-Henderson area. And, that's a good thing. For starters, the menu still revolves around perfectly prepared French classics like pate, onion soup, steak tartare and pommes frites. The restaurant's atmosphere is as cozy and inviting today as it was two decades ago thanks to a patent disregard of remodeling or renovations - stately oil portraits still adorn the mirrored walls and the decor is still homey and unimposing. Customers who dined here back in the 80s can still experience the same professional and polished service today that they enjoyed back then. L'Ancestral's staunch resistance to change and unwavering commitment to quality have helped it become a fixture of the Dallas dining scene.
